His best 'You wanna piece of me?' face
Bowden is playing t-ball this fall and couldn't be more excited. Dad took him to get all his equipment. The bat and helmet were pretty popular~the glove, not so much. I asked a friend of mine whose boys are older how five year-olds have the hand strength to close the glove to catch the ball. She laughed and said, 'They don't!' After attending his first practice a couple of weeks ago, I saw exactly what she meant. Most of the balls are flying around so wildly, there is no way in the world anyone is going to catch it and even if it was possible, most are going to duck. It was so funny! As adults, we also take knowing the rules of baseball for granted. There are so many things that a 4 or 5 year-old just don't know. Such as, when you're on base and someone hits the ball, you don't run to catch the ball. Of course, the order in which one needs to run the bases is pretty complicated, too. Let's just say that we are going to have to get the coaches a pretty nice gift at the end of the season because this is going to require a lot of patience. Bowden is loving it so far, though, and seems to be making some more buddies and that's why we are doing it. If we get a little entertainment from it in the process, then all the better.
